Here are the top three stories in Winston-Salem today:
- According to the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, Black students in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools have faced stricter and more frequent disciplinary actions than their white counterparts. The agency found that while Black students make up 29 percent of the district's student population, they received 57 percent of the disciplinary measures that led to suspensions. The agency also criticized the district's new code of conduct for its lack of clarity. The district has agreed to several actions, including reviewing its procedures for discipline. - The Carolina Classic Fair is set to take place at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds from Sep. 29-Oct. 8. This year's fair will include food, live music, games, carnival rides, animal exhibits, and more. Organizers are also offering special deals and promo days. (WXII)
- Mark your calendars for the return of the WePLAY Treat Trail! This event will take place at Bolton Park on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. This free event features a trail of games, activities, and vendors for trick-or-treaters to enjoy.
