Here are the top three stories today in Winston-Salem:

  1. According to the Winston-Salem Police, a former exceptional children's teaching assistant with Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools has been arrested. Tyrone Yancey is facing a misdemeanor charge of assault on an individual with a disability. This charge comes after administrators at Carter High School received a report on Sep. 1 about inappropriate student discipline that involved Yancey. Responding to the situation, WS/FCS Superintendent Tricia McManus offered reassurance that the district does not tolerate behavior that endangers children. (My Fox 8)
  2. The Winston-Salem Police Department is reporting success with its new integrated camera system. The department's Real Time Crime Center is connected to 13,000 cameras registered by businesses and residents that have assisted officers in catching people who commit crimes within minutes of their infractions. This technology assisted police in recent cases involving the sexual assault of a local business owner and a shooting. In both cases, the cameras caught images of suspects that led police to make arrests. Click here to learn more about connecting your security camera to the community camera registry. (WFMY News 2)
  3. The Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance is marking its 40th season with several upcoming shows. "The Addams Family" will usher in spooky season from Sep. 15-24, followed by "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" on Oct. 26-30. "Return to the Forbidden Planet" will take the stage in November, and performances of "Annie Warbucks" will wrap up the holiday season from Dec. 8-17.
