- The Winston-Salem Police Department has begun a homicide investigation regarding the death of a 16-year-old boy who was shot and killed on the night of Saturday, Jun. 10. At roughly 9:50 p.m. that evening, officers were called to the area of Ashley Crossing and Morgan Circle after reports of gunshots. On arrival, police found Trevon Mitchell of Kernersville, 16, lying in the parking lot suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Mitchell was unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene, and the Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating, but police say Mitchell appears to have been the "intended target" of the shooting. - In an effort to keep ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving advertising and marketing industry, The Variable, a Winston-Salem advertising agency, has acquired the advanced analytics and AI firm, Data Crunch. The acquisition aims to reinforce the agency's capabilities with data-driven solutions and artificial intelligence, enabling them to deliver more complex and effective strategies for their clients, including major brands like NAPA Auto Parts, Electrolux, and NestlΓ©. (Winston-Salem Journal)
- Former Vice President Mike Pence, now a newly announced Republican presidential candidate, brought his conservative evangelism to nearby Greensboro on Saturday, emphasizing his intent to offer "new leadership" based on conservative principles in the face of current political crises he attributes to President Joe Biden. Amidst the turbulence of the recent federal indictment of his former boss, Donald Trump, Pence's call for "different leadership" was somewhat overshadowed by expectations for his reaction to Trump's legal predicament and its implications for the 2024 election. Addressing the indictment, Pence expressed deep concern over its potential to divide the country and called on Attorney General Merrick Garland to unseal the indictment and provide an explanation for its issuance, pledging that, if elected, he would restore confidence in the Department of Justice.
