Akron-Born, Grammy-Winner James Ingram Dead At 66

The R&B singer had several hits in the 1980s and 1990s.

AKRON, OH — Grammy-winning, Ohio-born singer James Ingram has died. During the heyday of his R&B career, Ingram clocked eight Top 40 hits.

"I have lost my dearest friend and creative partner James Ingram to the Celestial Choir. He will always be cherished, loved and remembered for his genius, his love of family and his humanity. I am blessed to have been so close. We will forever speak his name," Debbie Allen said of Ingram on social media.

Ingram reportedly had brain cancer, according to TMZ. He was 66.

Among his many hit songs, Ingram could count "We Are the World," the 80s superstar anthem that was recorded for charity. He also had notable duets with Linda Ronstadt, Patti Austin, and Michael McDonald, Consequence of Sound reported.
