Gas prices jump 10 cents in Akron, Cleveland: Here's what GasBuddy is saying (wkyc.com) — Gas prices in Akron just jumped more than 10 cents in a week, with drivers now paying an average of $2.72 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. While Cleveland saw a similar increase, the national average actually dipped, and analysts say prices may keep sliding nationally before bottoming out early next year.

Grand jury indicts man accused of stabbing, shooting Akron mother in brutal murder (cleveland19.com) — Akron residents should know a Summit County grand jury has indicted a 38-year-old man in connection with the fatal stabbing and shooting of an Akron mother and injuries to her son. Police say officers responded to a Miles Street home in late November, found the woman dead at the scene, and later arrested the suspect nearby.
   

3. Akron men's basketball blows past Concord, 115-64, as Tavari Johnson scores 28 points and reaches milestone (cleveland.com) — Akron basketball fans saw a dominant home win as the Zips crushed Concord 115-64 at James A. Rhodes Arena, with Tavari Johnson pouring in 28 points. Johnson also became just the 50th Akron player to reach 1,000 career points, as the team improved to 10-3 before visiting Miami on January 3.
   

4. Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry joins Ohio Mayors Alliance board (mansfieldnewsjournal.com) — Akron Mayor Shammas Malik will serve on the Ohio Mayors Alliance board alongside Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry and others, giving Akron a voice in this bipartisan coalition of major city leaders. Their work focuses on advocating for Ohio cities at the Statehouse and strengthening collaboration across regions.
   

5. Ohio Bank Robber Asks Police To Put Stolen Money In His Jail Account - Hits 96 (hits96.com) — An Alliance bank robbery has a direct Akron tie: police say the suspect had moved from Akron to Alliance just five days earlier before allegedly stealing about $400 in one-dollar bills from a Huntington Bank. Officers quickly arrested him and, according to the report, he even asked that the money be placed in his jail commissary account.
