• Avon Lake buys former Erieview Elementary to create new community center (cleveland.com) — Avon Lake City Council has approved buying the former Erieview Elementary School on Electric Boulevard to turn it into a new community center for residents. The city will pay $500,000 over five years from the Recreation Trust Fund, not the general fund, and plans to launch recreation programs, social services, and community meeting space at the site as early as next year.
   

• Avon Lake girls basketball's big comeback keys win over Berea-Midpark (morningjournal.com) — Avon Lake’s girls basketball team thrilled home fans with a stunning 24-point comeback to beat Berea-Midpark 56-52, improving to 2-0 in Southwestern Conference play. Senior standout Olivia Miller scored 23 points and locked down Berea-Midpark’s top scorer in the second half, helping the Shoregals reclaim the defensive identity that powered last season’s state runner-up run.
   

• Andrew R. Bobka (cleveland.com) — Avon Lake is mourning the loss of 81-year-old resident Andrew R. Bobka, a U.S. Army veteran who served with the 25th Infantry Division in Vietnam. A longtime Citigroup employee, he is remembered by his wife, children, and grandchildren, with his family suggesting memorial donations to the American Cancer Society or Cleveland Zoological Society.
