The money will support organizations facing the unique challenges of a COVID-19 world.
ELYRIA, OH — More than $1 million in grants were awarded to community programs this month through the Community Foundation of Lorain County.
The money will be used to support nonprofits facing post-pandemic challenges. The grants focused on four key areas: arts and culture, education and youth development, health and human services, and strengthening Lorain County.
“This money will provide much needed support to continue to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in our community,” said Maria Grega, chair of the Grants Committee at the Community Foundation of Lorain County.

One of the organizations receiving grants is Let's Get Real, which provides peer support for individuals struggling with alcohol and opiate addiction. The group aids local hospitals like Mercy Lorain, Mercy Allen, Cleveland Clinic Avon and University Hospitals.
"We are incredibly grateful for the $30k grant approval. These monies should enable us to serve by increasing outreach, transport services, and engagement length, which will increase overall services and removal of barriers for those struggling with addiction," said Kim Eberle, executive director at Let's Get Real. "So often the family and loved ones are expected to hands-on navigate the individual through the systems. These monies will benefit the greater community by relieving the families of that obligation and connecting and utilizing existing social services in Lorain County."
