Alcohol, Drugs Contributed To Deadly Car Crashes In Lorain County

AVON, OH — Alcohol and narcotics played a role in multiple deadly car crashes in Lorain County that happened between August and late October.
Between January and November 2021, there were at least 29 fatal car crashes on Lorain County roads, leading to 32 deaths.
The findings behind the most recent analysis of fatal crashes come from the Lorain County Traffic Fatality Review Committee, which met recently to review 10 fatal traffic crashes that left 14 people dead. The committee determined the following factors played a role in at least one crash, with some crashes coming as the result of multiple factors:

- Alcohol played a role in three crashes.
- Drugs played a role in two crashes.
- A medical issued played a role in one crash.
- Motorcycles were involved in three crashes and only one motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
- Five crashes involved people not wearing seat belts.
- Five of the killed people were 55 or older.
