1. Sunday is Patriot Day, marking the 21st anniversary of the terrible tragedy that changed our country forever. We must never forget. Honoring the 9/11 victims, Avon Lake High School Key Club members placed 3,000 flags out in a display of their memory on Electric Boulevard along the sidewalk near the tennis courts, due to the construction on SR 83. 2. Each month, the Avon Lake City Schools will be featuring a staff member from each school for its new Staff Spotlights. September Staff Spotlights include "Mike Kaminski Guidance ALHS, Sue Hanna Troy Fifth Grade teacher, Doug Warren Learwood Computer Teacher, Bill Grainger Westview Head Custodian, Ada O'Connor Erieview First Grade teacher, Emily Armstrong Redwood Librarian and Kathy Butts Eastview Librarian. According to a post on the Support Avon Schools Facebook page, "Avon High School junior Sophie Ng experienced the thrill of a lifetime as one of only four students from the local Contemporary Youth Orchestra picked to play in front of thousands (violin) during the recent Machine Gun Kelly concert at First Energy Stadium."
