Here are the top stories today in Avon-Avon Lake:

1. It's a big day for golf today as the Ohio Girls Golf Foundation tees off at Avon Oaks Country Club with both individuals and teams competing for top honors and scholarships. Good luck, girls. Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the Record-Courier, "the Northern Ohio PGA holds the Kenny Novak Tour Championship at Club Walden in Aurora. And on Thursday and Friday, the 15th annual Matt Mishler Portage County Junior Amateur will feature local golfers teeing it up at Windmill Lakes Golf Club in Ravenna and Sunny Hill Golf Club in Brimfield." 2. The Mourning Journal has reported that the "Avon-Avon Lake Republican Club will hold its next Friends Breakfast from 8 to 9 a.m., Aug. 3, at the Sugar Creek Restaurant, 5196 Detroit Road in Sheffield Village. Ron Kaminski will present the “History of the Progressive Movement in America.” Attendees can learn something new and participate in a casual free exchange of ideas about current positions with like-minded and concerned candidates, officials and neighbors, according to a news release. Guests are welcomed and attendees are responsible for their meals." (The Morning Journal)
