Bubba's-Q Makes USA Today Top-20 List

Restaurant owned by Al "Bubba" Baker ranks No. 8 of athlete-owned restaurants.

Former Cleveland Brown-turned-restaurant owner Al “Bubba” Baker joined the ranks of some pretty prestigious athletes while putting Avon in the national spotlight.

USA Today ranked Bubba’s Q as the no. 8 “athlete owned restaurant” in the country in their Travel section.

The newspaper ranked the 20 best athlete-owned restaurants with John Elway’s Denver-based restaurant, “Elway’s,” as no. 1.

The list included restuarants owned by hockey players, golfers and a plethora of football players.

Baker, who owns the restaurant with is wife Sabrina, founded Bubba's Q on SR 83, just over the tracks in Avon, after retiring.

"Bubba's Q has since done pretty well, at least according to the accolades they list (among them Cleveland Magazine and Silver Spoon Awards for "Best Ribs" and "Best Barbecue Restaurant" from 2009 to 2011)," USA Today said of the restaurant.

Bubba’s Q, which specializes in ribs and barbecue, beat out Ditka’s, Brett Favre's Steakhouse, Joe Theismann’s and Wayne Gretzky's.

Baker also offers a line of barbecue sauces, catering and take-out.
