Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

  1. Avon Schools welcomed Jeanne DiFrancesco to her new role as director of transportation and Barb Thomascik and Fred Hunt into the roles of assistant transportation directors. Bus routes for the upcoming school year will be emailed/posted today! After we take some time to practice our runs and meet with drivers, an updated version of the routes will be emailed on Aug 22.   2. Avoiding a would-be boycott, it was officially announced Monday that high school football referees in Northeast Ohio will get their first pay raise in 20 years. According to a Fox 8 News article, "varsity football officials will be paid $80 per game this season. The pay scale jumps to $90 per game in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Then, it jumps to $100 per game in the final two years of the agreement." Congratulations referees! (Fox 8 News)
  3. Avon Lake Public Library is now hiring for two positions — Discovery Works associate and Discovery Works student greeter — both in DiscoveryWorks, the library's hands-on learning and science center.
