Council to Vote On Lot Size Charter Amendment

Decision must be made to put it on the ballot or not

Avon City Council will vote in Monday's 7:30 p.m. meeting at City Hall whether or not to put a charter amendment before the voters in new developments.

The city has to decide Monday, because the deadline to get something on the election ballot is August 10.

The charter amendment (see attached pdf) would increase minimum lot sizes from 15,000 square feet to 17,600 square feet. Frontage and lot width would also be adjusted, with cul-de-sac and narrow-but-deep flag lots being taken into account.

City officials say they hope larger lots will mean less water runoff into city sewers and thus less basement flooding.
