Donated Tools Stolen from the Prayers from Maria Project in Avon
Sunflowers that stretch for nearly a mile along I-90 in Avon attracted a thief.

Prayers from Maria Children’s Glioma Cancer Foundation has maintained a mile-long stretch of sunflowers in a field visible from I-90 in Avon for three years now. The sunflowers are a memorial to Maria McNamara who died at the age of 7 from Glioma Cancer. Prayers from Maria Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation funds research worldwide for the cure and treatment of cancerous brain tumors known as gliomas.
Unfortunately, someone didn't seem to care about the mission that the sunflower field represented. newsnet5.com reports that someone broke into the shed at the field and stole materials and tools. Some of the items stolen include: lumber, a cordless drill, chop saw, table saw, wheelbarrow and a generator.
The materials and tools were being used to build an observation deck, a storage shed, donation boxes and other projects for the foundation.

The Prayers from Maria Foundation received some great news, all of the tools and materials have been replaced by Lowe's and they can move forward with their projects to improve the sunflower field. The following message was posted on the Prayers from Maria Children's Glioma Cancer Foundation Facebook page:
Thank you to everyone for their concern and support over what happened at our sunflower field last weekend. The generosity of so many has been overwhelming. Please know that Lowe's has replaced all of the equipment and supplies and are proceeding with the project to make our field experience one we will never forget! The best way to help is to continue supporting Prayers from Maria, support Lowe's, and visit our field once it blooms in September!
