A Duck Tape Prom Dress Could Score You A College Scholarship
An Ohio-based company is giving away college scholarships to students that create bold prom dresses and tuxedos using Duck Tape.
AVON, OH — It's nearly that time of year again. High school students with fashion design chops and a bold creative streak could score themselves a college scholarship by designing prom fashion using Duck Tape.
The Avon-based Duck Tape company annually rewards high school students for their tape-centric prom dresses and tuxedos during the Stuck at Prom contest. This year, the company is giving away nearly $25,000 in scholarships to participants that wow the judges.
"Despite the pandemic the last two years and many students not having the opportunity to experience prom at all, we had more young designers than ever before crafting at home and showing off their artistry virtually," said Ashley Luke, senior product manager at Shurtape Technologies, LLC, the company that markets the Duck brand.

How to Win a Scholarship
Students should design and perfect their prom outfits and then submit photos and videos of their creations through the Stuck at Prom website. This year's entry period is March 30 through June 8.
Once the entry period closes, judges will select 10 finalists, five from the dress category and 5 from the tux category. Judges will critique submissions based on use of color, workmanship, originality, accessories and how Duck Tape was used in the design.

Then, the public decides the ultimate winners. Two grand prize recipients from the dress and tux categories will be selected and will each receive a $10,000 scholarship. The eight runners up receive $500 scholarships and Duck brand prize packs worth $100.
"Inspired by culture and fashion, we were in awe of the number of stunning Duck Tape ensembles entered into the contest. Now it's time for the next generation of talented teens in the U.S. and Canada to put their creativity to the test for a chance to win cash scholarships," Luke said.
Here are the key dates to remember for the contest:
- Entry: March 30 — June 8
- Judging: June 15 — June 22
- Community voting: June 29 — July 13
- Grand prizes announced: Week of July 20
