The Avon Police Department will host "Coffee with a Cop" from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. this Wednesday at Starbucks on Detroit Road.

AVON, OH — Avon residents can get to know the men and women who patrol their city during National Coffee with a Cop Day. Police officers will be hanging out at Starbucks on Wednesday, Oct. 6 eager to make conversation with the public.

Coffee with a Cop's mission is to break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve by removing agendas and allowing opportunities to ask questions, voice concerns and get yo know the officers in their neighborhood.

The Avon event will be held at the Starbucks at 35825 Detroit Road from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Coffee with a Cop originated in California in 2011, according to the event's website. With shifting populations and a deluge of content on social media, police were looking for a way to re-establish a bond of trust between officers and the community.

The answer was simple: a cup of coffee. Eight years after the first Coffee with a Cop event, the program has spread throughout the U.S. and into Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia and Africa.
