Excessive Heat Watch in Effect

The National Weather Service in Cleveland has issued an excessive heat watch for all of northeast Ohio for Thursday afternoon.

Thursday is supposed to mostly sunny, with a high around 98. That, the National Weather Service said, could push the heat index to between 105 and 110 degrees.

The heat index is how hot it really feels when the temperature is combined with relative humidity.

The Lorain County Health District has some reminders for safety in the heat:

• Don't leave your child unattended in a car, even for "just a few minutes."
• Drink water regularly throughout the day, and keep beverages containing alcohol, caffeine and sugar to a minimum.
