Fine For Passing School Buses Increased In Avon Lake
Drivers who ignore a stopped school bus will now face a $500 penalty.
AVON LAKE, OH — Minimum fines for passing school buses were increased this week by Avon Lake City Council.
After passing an emergency ordinance, the minimum fine for passing schools buses in Avon Lake is now $500. Police have issued three citations for ignoring a stopped school bus' lights and sign in 2021, according to Fox 8.
As a reminder, drivers going either direction on a two-lane road must stop if they see a school bus with its stop sign extended and lights flashing.

The Avon Lake Schools fleet of buses are equipped with cameras to capture anyone who ignores the bus' stop sign and drives around the bus. If an incident occurs, footage will then be sent to the police.
