Girl Scouts Show Creativity in Cookie Contest
Desserts were made using Girl Scout Cookies
All those episodes of Cupcake Wars paid off for Shannon Becks.
The Avon Villagers Girl Scout, along with her mom Lisa, won first prize in the Avon Villagers Mother-Daughter Girl Scout Cookie Recipe event Friday night at in Avon Lake.
Shannon loves to bake and watch shows about baking, like Cupcake Wars. She and Lisa have been working on the recipe for about a month.

Things didn't go according to plan at first, but the two turned it into a way to make the dessert even tastier.
After they put a layer of crumbled Dulce de Leche cookies in the bottom of foil mini muffin cups, Shannon and Lisa added a layer of  batter and baked them. They did not expect for the batter to sink a bit, forming a little cup. So they filled that with caramel sauce and a sprinkling of crumbled Dulce de Leche cookies, and topped that with caramel buttercream frosting.

"I knew we'd do something with Dulce de Leche cookies because they're one of our favorites," Shannon said.
Twenty-two recipes were submitted. That was a lot of sampling.
"When I came up with this, I was thinking maybe three or four would enter," said Julie Delaney, who helped organize the event.
Sophia and her mom Maria took second place for Sophia's Loveable Lemon Dessert, which used Trefoils and Savannah Smiles along with lemon pudding and whipped cream.
Editors note: As a guest of Avon Villagers Girl Scouts for the event, I voted in the judging of the desserts along with all the Scouts and their mothers there.
