Local businesses are ready to make your Turkey Day special

How would you like a former NFL star to help make your Thanksgiving dinner?

You can, and stay right in Avon for it.

Al "Bubba" Baker, former Browns (among other teams) defensive lineman, owns on Center Road. And he's selling whole smoked turkeys for the holidays, along with other treats.

Baker said the 22-pound turkeys are given a spice rub, then are sealed in food bags so the spices can penetrate the meat. The turkey is smoked for about six hours.

Preparing one of his turkeys takes three days, Baker said.

Turkeys are $64.99 each. They must be ordered by Tuesday, Nov. 22. You can pick them up before 9 p.m. on Nov. 23. Bubba's Q is closed on Thanksgiving.

Looking for sides? You can give yourself (and your stove) a break with sides from Bubba's Q including cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, macaroni and cheese, cranberry sauce and collard greens.

There are lots of ways businesses in Avon can make your Thanksgiving dinner easy and delicious.

  • has breads, cakes and other sweet treats. The deadline for Thanksgiving orders is 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18. But if you don't get an order in, they'll still be open next week to go in and pick something out.
  • Don't feel like doing any cooking? offers a turkey dinner for 10 to 12 people -- turkey, gravy, stuffing, mashed potatoes, candied yams, green bean casserole, rolls and butter, two pies and whipped cream -- for $79. All you have to do is heat 'n eat! Deadline for ordering is Saturday, Nov. 19.
  • If you just want a hand with a few items, make a run. There are pies and pumpkin cheesecake in the bakery, and side dishes like mashed sweet potatoes and parmesan creamed spinach in the prepared foods section.
