Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

  1. Avon Lake residents who are interested in reducing harmful methane emissions and the amount of waste sent to landfills can now participate in the Rust Belt Riders Neighborhood food scrap drop-off program for a membership fee of $10 a month. Members will get a four-digit number to open padlocks to secure the lid of the collection container where food scraps, including raw and cooked foods, animal products and bones, can be deposited. Rust Belt Riders will take the waste and transform it into nutrient-rich soil. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
  2. With a united theme of working together, Avon and Avon Lake mayors spoke at the recent North Coast Chamber meeting. Reportedly, Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen, spoke about family and the pride Avon has in Bendix, the company that relocated its newly expanded headquarters in Avon. Avon Lake Mayor Greg Zilka, spoke about the good relationship the area mayors have working together, as well as, COVID-19 and made light of the new Avon Lake-opoly game. (cleveland.com)
  3. Even though voters on May 3 rejected an income tax increase, Mayor Bryan Jensen still has hope that the city will be able to preserve land for future parks. "My goal is still to preserve as much land as possible, because once the houses go up, the opportunity is gone, said Jensen reportedly in a Cleveland.com article. He added, “The residents have spoken. But it would have been nice to work with the land, as they are not making any more of it.” (cleveland.com)
