Holiday Traditions Live On: Moms Talk

What are your must-do's for the holiday season?

From the Feast of the Seven Fishes to special Christmas pajamas to black-eyed peas on New Year's Day, the holiday season is filled with traditions.

Traditions and rituals are an important part of holidays. They connect us with memories of the past, and give the children a legacy of memories of their own.

Some of my favorite Christmas traditions were walking with my family in the pine woods at Abbey of Regina Laudis in Bethlehem, Conn., to choose a tree. We also went to Bethlehem to mail our Christmas cards. Not only would they have the Bethlehem postmark, but the post office has to decorate the envelopes of your cards.

Since I moved to Ohio, I've heard of local traditions like going to see Santa at Halle's, May Company or Higbee's.

Today, let's talk tradition. What were the cherished traditions of your childhood holidays? What have you been able to carry on in your own family? Were there some traditions you were more than happy to let end? What new traditions have you created?
