Here are the top three stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

  1. Get ready for some driving delays! There will be road work happening this week on State Route 83 from Detroit Road to the roundabout at Mills Road. The expectation is that the project will be completed within a six week time span. Sidewalk and crosswalk ramp work will begin during the daytime hours. On September 6, milling and paving will be done during the night time hours. Drivers are being asked to plan ahead. (cleveland.com)
  2. A very special photographic war memorial will be hosted at the the Avon Veterans Memorial (located behind the post office, 36225 Detroit Road). This location will serve as a perfect backdrop for the memorial titled, "Remembering Our Fallen." According to a cleveland.com article, "the memorial honors our country’s military fallen from the Global War on Terror (Sept. 11, 2001 - Aug. 30, 2021) through military and personal photos. The display is free and open to the public to view from Sept. 1-5." Hope to see you there! (cleveland.com)
  3. Which town will win the SOUPer Bowl this year? According to cleveland.com, "the Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services (CRS) SOUPer Bowl Food Drive is a friendly competition between the Avon and Avon Lake communities to see who can collect the most food by weight. All food collected will benefit families through the CRS onsite food pantry. Monetary donations are also accepted. Each $1 contributed will be counted as five pounds of food. The winner of the food drive competition will be announced at halftime of the Avon vs. Avon Lake varsity football game Sept. 9 and will be presented with the SOUPer Bowl Trophy. Since its inception in 2010, the SOUPer Bowl has collected 69,509 pounds of food and $134,021 in monetary donations. Food donations can be dropped off at all schools in Avon and Avon Lake or you can bring your donations to the game on Sept. 9. For more information, go to aalcrs.org."(cleveland.com)
