Love-A-Stray Picks a Winner, Gears up for Annual 5K

Designs will be featured at April 28 event.

Two winners have been selected for the 2013 annual Love-A-Stray's T-shirt contest. Both will be used to support the annual Fur Fun 5k race and walk, one of Love-a-Stray's major fundraisers, held in Avon Lake on April 28.

a non-profit, all volunteer, no-kill organization dedicated to helping homeless animals.

Andrea Scheetz, Love-A-Stray Fur Fun Event Coordinator, said the contest pulled entries from artists from all age levels.

"It was quite the debate to determine the winner," Scheetz said.

All of the designs entered will be displayed at the event.

She told entrants that even if they were not winners, it was possible and entrant may see his or her design crop up sometime in the future.  

"We may use your design for advertising such as on lawn signs, or in future thank you cards," Scheetz emailed entrants.

Kayla Panigutti's submission will be used for the 5k race shirts.

Chris Clark's entry will be used for the dog walk. The design in its entirety will be on draw string bags given to dog walk participants and the image only (without the surrounding text) will go on bandannas to be worn by adoptable dogs from all the rescues who will be present at the event. 

The Fur Fun 5k will start at Avon Lake High School at 9 a.m. Last year, more than 350 participated in the race and walk.

Dog walks will be held hourly from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. A pet fair and business fair as well as “Rescue Row" is open from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Raffles, prizes and gift cards will be awarded and the event will also feature kids games and entertainment. Sign up for the race here.
