Here are the top four stories in Avon-Avon Lake today:

1. Avon Lake Schools are in need of several substitutes. Are you interested in a new job? Make a difference in your community and apply for one of the positions today! (Facebook)
2. Some fishermen prefer kayaks. Those that do will be gathering for the 18th season of the South Bass Island Kayak Rendezvous, which will gather on the Lake Erie Islands on Friday and Saturday, June 10-11. The Lake Erie Water Trails provide access around the Lake Erie Islands and East and West Harbors on the mainland making it a friendly space for kayakers, and the Miller Ferry can take paddlers and kayak to the island. 3. All are invited to attend the Avon/Avon Lake VFW Post 7035 Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 30 at 10 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial behind the Fire Department. Let's remember and celebrate together!.(Facebook)
4. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) is currently conducting mapping missions to improve marine navigation, that's why there has been that big white ship hanging out in the Lake. It's part of the (NOAA) project to survey the Great Lakes. Reportedly, only about five to 15 percent of the Lakes are mapped to modern standards and this project will change that and bring the maps up to date. (Facebook)
