Opposes Congressman Who Made 'Legitimate Rape' Comment

Reader asks, "Guess what religion he is?"

Per the morning Plain Dealer and the Internet below is a statement from the Congressman from Missouri:

He was asked would he support abortions for women who have been raped. "It seems to me first of all from what I understand from doctors that's really rare," "If it's a legitimate rape, the female body has ways try to shut that whole thing down." He said of a rape victim's chances of becoming pregnant. He also said that he would prefer that punishment for rape be focused on the rapist and not "attacking the child." Nothing about the women being raped.

He suggested that women who become pregnant as a result of rape are not "legitimately raped."

In 2011 he co-sponsored a bill to redefine rape. The purpose of the bill was to limit the number of survivors of rape and incest who could receive federally funded abortion care under existing law by changing the definition of rape to "forcible rape."
