  1. Instructor Jane Youel is happily teaching locals at the Avon Lake Public Library how to play the ukulele and have fun. "For those unfamiliar with the ukulele, it is from the family of lute instruments, according to the Morning Journal. The ukulele is of Portuguese origin and was made most known in the state of Hawaii. The “uke” as it’s called by many who play, uses four nylon strings and comes in four sizes, soprano, concert (also known as an alto ukulele), tenor and baritone. The Avon Lake Public Library primarily uses the soprano and concert ukuleles to teach beginners. Youel said she started playing the ukulele because of her sister, who is an accomplished player. “It’s an instrument that everyone can have fun with,” she said."(The Morning Journal)
