Police Department Hosts Blood Drive
Donors got free food, t-shirt and a chance to meet those who protect and serve
Avon's hosted a community blood drive on Saturday in the department parking lot.Â
"It's a good way to show the police department is involved in the community," said Sgt. Robert Olds, who helped organize the event.
A LifeShare blood donation bus was on hand and LifeShare workers handled the donation process. Donors got free t-shirts, and free food was provided. Kids who showed up got to check out police cars and fire trucks up close.

For 17-year-old Lindsey Urig of Avon, it was a special day. It was her first blood donation, and she did it with her mom, Lorie.
"I think it's a nice mother-daughter thing to do on a Saturday," Lorie said.
