1. The Avon Lake Police Department reminds motorists that no one should be playing on phones while driving. With recently passed legislation it will become a primary traffic offense starting in April. Law enforcement can immediately pull over a distracted driver. Put the phones down! 2. If you've been hoping to add a four-legged ball of love and affection to your family, start with these animal shelters in and around Avon-Avon Lake for a pet to take home.
   Millions of companion animals are given to adoption agencies each year nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. However, only around half of all these animals are adopted each year, ASPCA data shows. This means millions of animals — some right here in the Avon-Avon Lake area — are still waiting for their forever homes. • FIDO's Companion Rescue Inc.: "Meet Kong! Kong is 1 of 18 palliative care dogs FIDO’s cares for! Kong came to Fido’s in October ‘22 with congestive heart failure. He was very shut down and is just starting to settle into his home. Kong takes Vetmedin and Enacard everyday.
  His mom says ‘He’s a typical Shih Tzu, and he is now taking advantage of all the bones and toys in the toy chest. He loves sitting by the patio door, barking, to ward off the seagulls and geese from “his” domain. He’s just now starting to join us on the couch to watch TV.
