A shiny new school year began in Avon Local Schools on Thursday.

Kids wore their special first-day outfits, had special first-day lunches and some had special first-day pictures taken.

Jackson Blodgett was glad the excitement was over after his first day of second grade in Tricia Plataniotis' class at .

"It was fun," he said as he posed with his mom, Terrilynn, who came to pick him up after school.
