Stonebridge Residents Collect Food for Hungry

Food drive benefits Community Resource Services

Chris Barton has seen and heard plenty over his time with the .

So while it may surprise some that there are people in need of food assistance in Avon, it doesn't surprise him.

"People think, Avon, no one's needy here," he said. "That's not true."

To help out, Barton organized a food drive in his Stonebridge neighborhood. This year's food drive was held Sunday.

"It stays in the community," Barton said.

The glorious weather saw neighbors bringing food to his home and the home of Lorena Fabian.

"Chris lives on one side of the neighborhood, I live on the other," Fabian said. "So it's easy for people to get to either one of us."

Beautiful weather had neighbors hanging out with Barton as the donations came in. Several children helped organize the non-perishable food into boxes.

also helped out, setting up a donation box outside the store.

Fabian was touched by those who came out to donate.

"People are so willing and happy to help," she said. "They're glad to have the opportunity to give back."
