- If you’re hoping to add a four-legged ball of love and affection to your family, you should check out these Avon-Avon Lake area animal shelters for a pet who needs a home.
Millions of companion animals are taken in each year by animal rescue organizations nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Shelters often look after other animals in search of a permanent home as well, including pigs, birds and even horses. (Avon-Avon Lake Patch) - Good news for Lorain County schools! Due to substantial increases to the rates offered to substitutes, reportedly dozens of people interested in becoming substitute teachers went to the Educational Service Center of Lorain County on Wednesday as part of a job fair specifically tailored toward substitute teachers. A News 5 Cleveland WEWS article stated that "according to the Ohio Department of Education, there were roughly 13,000 substitute teachers as of 2019. By 2021, that number had been reduced to just over 5,000. The substitute teaching requirements for the ESC of Lorain County include a Bachelor’s degree in any field, a clean background check, three positive references and at least some experience working with school-aged children. If you’re interested in becoming a substitute teacher but missed Wednesday’s hiring event, you are encouraged to go to the ESC’s web site or call 440-324-5777 for more information." (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
- According to an article in The Mourning Journal, "Avon continues to expand on Chester Road, west of Jaycox Road. The biggest news is that a McAlister’s Deli will be built on a plot of land in the 35000 block of Chester Road near the Prayers From Maria field. This will be the chain’s second in Northeast Ohio and first in Lorain County. The other McAlister’s is in North Olmsted at Great Northern Mall." (The Morning Journal)
