- Nominations are currently being accepted for the Community Resource Services (CRS) Volunteer Award also known as the John T. Shook Award. Winners of the award will be announced at the charity ball on April 22. The deadline to submit applications is March 15. The award pays tribute to a longtime CRS Board member who passed away in 2018, John T. Shook and his commitment to volunteerism for CRS and in the community. Nomination forms can be found here. - Do you have little ones? Mark the calendar, registration opens at 9 a.m. March 6 for families with children entering kindergarten, to attend Safety Town. (It is not a requirement for kindergarten). Daily themes include information about traffic and pedestrian safety, stranger and drug safety, bicycle and animal awareness, home safety and emergency telephone use, police interaction, fire safety, school bus and seatbelt safety and outdoor and water safety among other things. June sessions will take place at Westview Elementary School. The cost for the program is $60. To register, go to avonlake.org/parksrec. (cleveland.com)
- The 14th Annual Cabin Fever Cornhole Tournament is scheduled for March 18 at the Avon Lake United Church of Christ, 32801 Electric Boulevard. This one-day fundraiser brings in significant money that is used for senior high mission trips. The deadline to register is March 12.
