1. If you've been looking to add a four-legged ball of love and affection to your family, start with these animal shelters in and around Avon-Avon Lake for a pet to take home. Over 6 million pets and other companion animals are taken in each year by animal pounds nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, approximately 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats. Shelters often look after other animals in search of a permanent home as well, including pigs, birds and even horses. 2. According to The Mourning Journal, The Avon-Avon Lake Republican Club will hold a “Senator and Judges Night” on July 14 at the Father Ragan Knights of Columbus Hall at 1783 Moore Road. Special guest speakers will be Majority Leader State Sen. Matt Huffman who sets the Senate’s policy agenda and candidates for the 9th District Court of Appeals Judges Jill Flagg Lanzinger and Donna Carr who will all be available at 5 p.m. The cost is $5 for guests."(The Morning Journal)
3. In Lorian County, Culvers in Avon, made the list for Best Ice Cream according to Yelp reviews of the Best Ice Cream and Frozen Yogurt in Greater Cleveland. Avon Dairy Treat and 808 Shave Ice also made the list. According to the Cleveland.com article, "This is an all-time list of the best ice cream and frozen yogurt businesses in the Greater Cleveland area, according to Yelp Cleveland. It identified businesses, then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews. This list looked at businesses in the following counties: Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage and Summit." (cleveland.com)
