New Baseball Coach Hired At Beachwood High

BEACHWOOD, OH — Ben Shepherd is the new head baseball coach for Beachwood High School.

Shepherd's hiring was approved this week by the Beachwood Board of Education. Before coming to Beachwood, Shepherd was the varsity assistant baseball and pitching coach at Tallmadge High School for 17 seasons.

“I am so excited for this opportunity and cannot wait to meet everyone,” Shepherd said. “I have been waiting years for the right opportunity to open and when I saw Beachwood was looking for a head coach, I applied right away. This is a great place to build a culture of winning and respect."

Shepherd went to Ellet High School, where he was a baseball and basketball star. He earned 1st Team all City honors and was the most valuable player on his high school baseball team. He then attended the University of Akron, where he was a letter winner in baseball.

After graduating from Akron, Shepherd went to Tallmadage High to begin his coaching career. He became the varsity assistant and head pitching coach in 2005, a job he held until 2021. During his career, the Blue Devils racked up more than 250 wins. In 2017, Tallmadge won the Division II state championship and returned to the Final Four in 2018.

“Coach Shepherd brings a wealth of knowledge and success to the Beachwood baseball program. Coach Shepherd has established himself as one of the top baseball coaches in NE Ohio and is recognized by his peers and former players as one that will go above and beyond for his players on and off the playing field. He has a great vision for the future of the program and I am excited to work with him," said Beachwood Director of Athletics Ryan Peters.
