📰 News we're reading
• Orange council puts reappointment of Stephen Byron as law director on hold (cleveland.com) — Beachwood residents will notice changes near Pinecrest as the former Beachwood Inn and nearby homes have been demolished to clear space for the new Walnut Hills Residences at Pinecrest development. Nearby Orange Village is also weighing its law director’s contract, addressing recurring water pressure issues tied to Solon breaks, and moving forward with a regional mental health response program that could benefit Beachwood-area communities.

• Drunk driving woman has difficulty following officer's instructions: Beachwood police blotter (cleveland.com) — Beachwood police recently handled several serious incidents, including a high-speed OVI arrest of a 24-year-old Beachwood resident and multiple thefts from homes and local shopping areas. Residents on Beachwood Boulevard and East Groveland reported car-related thefts, while Giant Eagle on Chagrin Boulevard saw a large shoplifting attempt. Another OVI arrest followed erratic driving on South Green Road.

• Shaker Heights to begin deer sterilization program alongside annual culling (cleveland.com) — Beachwood is partnering financially with Shaker Heights on a deer culling contract that helped remove 90 deer between the two cities last season, with meat donated to local food banks. Shaker Heights will add a new sterilization program starting Jan. 15, aiming to slow herd growth while continuing sharpshooting under police supervision. The shared approach could influence future deer management in Beachwood neighborhoods.
