Penske Logistics on New Jobs in Beachwood: 'We Are Confident We Are Going to Make that Growth'

When Penske Logistics renewed their lease with the landlord, they became aware of Beachwood's job creation program.

BEACHWOOD, OHIO — Following the announcement Monday night at Penske Logistics will be bringing 40 new jobs to Beachwood over the next 3 years, Patch spoke with Penske Logistics senior Vice President Tom McKenna to find out more about how the deal came about.

Penske Logistics has maintained offices in Beachwood since the 1970's.

"We planned early this year to make renovations," McKenna told Patch. "When we renewed the lease with the landlord, we became aware of this job creation program. We met with Jim Doubtt and it seemed like a win-win."

Beachwood Director Economic Development James Doutt explained the deal using the same term. "It has to mutually be a win-win," Doutt said. "The competition to keep your employment base is very keen."

There are currently 308 Penske Logistics employees in Beachwood and there are various hiring thresholds Penske Logistics must reach to receive the grant money, which amounts to 30 percent of new income tax money generated by new hires.

"We are confident we are going to make that growth," McKenna said.
