City’s Wood-Chipper Set to Make the Rounds in Brecksville

Following the extensive damage to trees from Hurricane Sandy, the city is expecting more limbs than ever.

Brecksville’s wood-chipper only makes the rounds once per year.

It’s the time of the season when residents stack unbundled tree limbs and logs — large and small — along the side of the roads. Starting in the north, the city crews make their way south to collect all of the wood and shred it.

Mulch comes afterward.

The program will last all of next week, but may be extended as needed.

ā€œPeople are already starting to stack (limbs) along the road in their tree lawns,ā€ said Ron Weidig, the city’s service director.

ā€œPeople are allowed to bring out long lengths of wood. With the remnants of Hurricane Sandy, people have a lot of downed limbs. Some people fill their whole length of their property line.ā€

Weidig said that last year the city was able to pass out mulch to residents.

ā€œWe’re going to do it again this year,ā€ he said.Ā
