Two Brecksville-Broadview Heights Students Named Finalists in ‘Stop the Hate’ Contest

Two students from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School are among the 10 finalists in the “Stop the Hate” contest. 

Brecksville students Biar Akar, a senior, and junior Courtney Schmidt landed among the 10 finalists for their essays to stop hatred, as part of the 5th annual Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage Stop the Hate: Youth Speak Out! contest.

Akar and Schmidt were among 1,600 participating students from seven counties, according to the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District website.

They will compete for three four-year college scholarships valued at $50,000, $25,000 and $15,000, as they give a presentation at an awards ceremony at Severance Hall on May 2.
