Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:
- Cincinnati Fraternal Order of Police President Dan Hils has called for the Cincinnati Police Department to reinstate a Black officer who he says was suspended last week after using a slur. The two officers were working an off-duty assignment at Energy Nightclub, near Paycor Stadium, on Sep. 2. After a teenager became aggressive with them, the officers activated their body cameras and recorded the teen's attempt to assault one of the officers. During that recording, Detective Joehonny Reese used the slur back to the teen, who had said it moments before. Reese was suspended as part of the department's unofficial zero tolerance policy. - The City of Cincinnati is sending volunteers from Greater Cincinnati Water Works to Jackson to assist with the water crisis. The city says they are working with the State of Ohio Emergency Management Agency to offer five GCWW staff members with nearly 50 years of combined water treatment plant maintenance experience. The crew will spend 15 days in Jackson. (WLWT Cincinnati)
- The Cincinnati school board is discussing the option of continuing its resource officer program. The Young Activists Coalition, a local youth-led social justice organization largely made up of Walnut Hills High School students, has opposed any Cincinnati police presence in school for two years. The vote will take place on Monday. (The Cincinnati Enquirer)
