Here are the top three stories in Cincinnati today:

  1. A Cincinnati man was charged with committing a federal hate crime by a federal grand jury on Wednesday. Darrin Johnson, 26, was arrested Thursday morning for physically assaulting a victim based on the victim's race in August 2021. The incident occurred on Calhoun Street at the University of Cincinnati. (WLWT Cincinnati)
  2. A Cincinnati daycare worker has been deemed competent to stand trial by a judge for physically assaulting a one-year-old. Kristian Hemmitt will now face charges of assault, child endangering, and tampering with evidence. She will now appear back in court on Monday, Dec. 19. (FOX19)
  3. Plans to construct a Martin Luther King Junior memorial in Cincinnati have been placed on hold. The City of Cincinnati reports that plans for the memorial were canceled due to "overwhelming feedback from community members." Despite the cancellation, a city memo states that the city remains committed to constructing a world-class and community-centric memorial honoring Dr. King. (WVXU)
