5 Things You Need A Permit For In Cleveland Heights

Here are five permits you may need to obtain in Cleveland Heights.

1.Β Building PermitsΒ -- Building permits are needed in Cleveland Heights for most home work, except for minor repairs, painting and gutters and downspout installation. The city provides a list of permit costsΒ for certain kinds of work.

2.Β Block PartiesΒ -- You don't need a permit per se, but you do need city permission to host a block party. You will need to contact the city'sΒ Community RelationsΒ department at least two weeks before the party and provide specific info, which can be found at the city website. There's a bonus too: The city will provide a volleyball and a net free of charge.

3.Β Recreation IDΒ -- If you want to use the city's fitness center, participate in classes or join sports leagues, you will need a recreation ID card. That is available to residents only for $5.

4.Β Business Occupancy PermitsΒ -- If you are opening a new business or relocating to a new storefront, you will need a business occupancy permit, which is accompanied by an inspection.Β Call the Division of Building at 216-291-4900 for a business occupancy permit.

5.Β Egg-Laying Hen PermitΒ -- What, you say? Yes, residents are allowed to keep egg-laying hens in the city so long as they follow the proper procedures to obtain permission.
