Blacklick Student Recognized for Community Service

Online school celebrates students making positive impact in their community

Emily Carsey of Blacklick, was among the three Ohio Connections Academy (OCA) students to receive recognition for their volunteer service and commitment to making difference in their community. Emily, an eighth grader, was presented with Ohio Connections Academy’s Community Service Recognition Award, for volunteering at a local horse barn, her church and helping others in need in her neighborhood and community.

Emily volunteers at Benson Oak Farms where she helps care for several of the horses from cleaning stalls to feeding, grooming, and exercising the horses. She also volunteers for the Summit Kids Ministry at her church and helps with Vacation Bible School. Emily also works with her parents doing yard work for older and/or disabled residents in their community or neighbors when they need it.

“Completing community service and enjoying it inspired me to look for other opportunities where I can serve,” Emily said. “The horse barn, serving at church, and helping my parents are all on-going service activities. I plan to continue doing all these things.”

“The faculty, staff and members of the board at Ohio Connections Academy are so proud of these students and the time and effort they have given to make a positive impact on their communities,” Marie Hanna, OCA Superintendent said. “Each of the students have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and a commitment to making our world a better place – they truly deserve this recognition.”
