Columbus City Council approves updated parking ticket fees, new types of citations (wosu.org) — Starting in April, Columbus drivers will see a revamped parking ticket system with clearer fee tiers, longer payment windows, and new penalties for blocking bike and bus lanes. City officials say the updated code modernizes outdated rules, emphasizes safety and mobility violations, and simplifies the appeals process so residents can more easily understand and contest citations.
   

2. National Veterans Memorial and Museum wants to collect veterans' stories (nbc4i.com) — The National Veterans Memorial and Museum in downtown Columbus is asking local families to record conversations with the veterans in their lives so those stories can be preserved in a Library of Congress archive. Working with StoryCorps, the museum offers simple phone or computer recording options and even on-site help at the museum. It’s a timely chance to capture loved ones’ service memories over the holidays.
   

3. Ohio lawmakers push back on White House AI resolution (nbc4i.com) — State lawmakers meeting in Columbus are challenging a new Trump administration executive order that would limit Ohio’s ability to set its own rules for artificial intelligence. A bipartisan pair, including Columbus Democrat Christine Cockley, has introduced resolutions asserting states’ rights to regulate AI, while business leaders warn against a patchwork of state laws. Debate at the Statehouse will shape how AI is governed here.
   

4. ODOT helps couple find lost wedding ring at rest stop (10tv.com) — A longtime married couple briefly lost a treasured wedding ring at an Ohio Department of Transportation rest stop just outside Columbus while driving up from Florida, then happily got it back thanks to staff there. Their trip continued on to Columbus, where they reflected on six decades of marriage and the kindness that helped preserve a symbol of their life together.
   

5. Licking County Humane Society faces strain after rescuing over 20 dogs (abc6onyourside.com) — More than 20 miniature dachshunds and other dogs rescued to the Licking County Humane Society in Columbus are safe but creating a serious financial strain on the shelter. With up to 40 more dogs possibly arriving soon, staff are treating medical issues and preparing some for adoption while asking the community for donations to cover exams, vaccines, and surgeries.
