People & Places 12-11-25 (crescent-news.com) — Several key meetings are coming up in Defiance, including Northeastern and Ayersville school board sessions, a city civil service commission meeting on a police lateral transfer, and a Family and Children First Council meeting. Residents can also donate blood this afternoon at St. John United Church of Christ on Webster Street.
   

2. State announces funding to support Ohioans experiencing housing instability (wtol.com) — Defiance residents facing homelessness will see added support thanks to new state funding for the Northwestern Ohio Community Action Commission’s 16-bed emergency shelter serving Defiance and surrounding counties. The two-year grant is part of $18.7 million awarded statewide to expand emergency shelter capacity and rapid re-housing programs expected to help more than 25,000 Ohioans stabilize their housing.

The longtime ODOT worker and West Unity resident is remembered for his highway service, small engine repair work, love of classic cars, and close-knit family spread across several states.
   

4. High school football: Moyer, Hall named to All-Ohio teams (limaohio.com) — Defiance football fans can celebrate as lineman Tyler Doeden-Kiessling and running back Kelten Gibbs both earned Division III All-Ohio honors, with defensive back Jordyn Wright also recognized. The extensive statewide list highlights standout performances from Defiance and other northwest Ohio programs after the regular season.
   

5. Ohio deer gun season sees more deer checked than average (wtol.com) — Hunters in Defiance County checked 810 deer during Ohio’s 2025 gun season, slightly below the county’s recent three‑year average of 834 but amid a statewide increase in harvests. The report also explains epizootic hemorrhagic disease and urges residents to report sick or strangely behaving deer online.
