Gayle Manning praises investment in educational and workforce opportunities for youth in Lorain County (cleveland.com) — New state-directed funding announced from Elyria will steer millions in federal welfare dollars toward youth and family services, including programs that benefit Lorain County kids. State Rep. Gayle Manning says the investment will expand workforce training, mentorship, and crisis support through organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs, Catholic Charities, and Providence House over the next two fiscal years. 
2. Two Elyria restaurant employees charged after false robbery report (wkyc.com) — Elyria police say two Rubin's Restaurant / Arabica employees are facing charges after allegedly staging a fake armed robbery call that triggered a major response to Chestnut Commons Drive. Investigators quickly determined the report was a hoax, and one suspect was arrested while another remains at large. Officials are warning residents that AI-fueled prank crime reports can bring serious criminal consequences and strain emergency resources.
3. Midway Mall sale falls through as developer backs out of deal (cleveland.com) — A planned sale of Elyria’s Midway Mall has collapsed after the developer backed out, leaving the Lorain County Port Authority searching for new partners. Officials say several other interested parties have already emerged, and they’re pledging to keep pushing for a redevelopment plan that can revive this key local property.
4. Sentencing for Michigan man who tried to run over Elyria police officers (cleveland19.com) — A Michigan man who injured an Elyria officer while fleeing police in 2023 is being sentenced in Lorain County Court, after pleading guilty to multiple charges. The case stems from a late-night encounter at the S. Abbe Road Speedway that escalated into a chase, a barricade situation, and officers firing at a vehicle as it drove through a garage door. The officer’s injuries were described as minor.
5. Conflicting versions of events lead to charges for Elyria couple (morningjournal.com) — Elyria police arrested a man and woman after a domestic dispute at a Washington Avenue residence, where both showed minor injuries and gave conflicting accounts. Officers said the pair, who had been drinking, argued and struggled over a phone before things turned physical, leading to domestic violence and assault charges for both.
