• Train horns go off 1,800 times a day in Hamilton; city aims to make town quiet(er) again (journal-news.com) — Hamilton officials are pursuing a railroad quiet zone that could cut daily train horn blasts by more than half at key crossings from Hanover to Heaton streets. The plan would require over $1 million in safety upgrades and some street closures, but city leaders say it’s a crucial quality-of-life boost for neighborhoods like Riverview, Jefferson, North End and Dayton Lane.

• Man sentenced for deadly Walmart shooting in Fairfield Township (wlwt.com) — A Butler County judge in Hamilton has sentenced Anthony Brown to 26 years to life for the 2022 shooting inside the Princeton Road Walmart in nearby Fairfield Township, which killed shopper Adam Black and injured an employee. The long-delayed case, handled through the Hamilton courts, ended after Brown abandoned self-representation and pleaded guilty to murder and related gun and assault charges.

• Suspected drunk driver struck vehicle, fled scene on foot in Ross Twp. (journal-news.com) — A suspected drunk driver in Ross Twp. allegedly struck another vehicle at Hamilton Cleves Pike Road and U.S. 27, seriously injuring the other driver before fleeing on foot. Police say he later claimed his SUV was stolen, but officers found and arrested him at a Green Twp. hospital, and he’s now held in Butler County Jail on bond.
