• Rep. David Thomas votes in support of legislation to enhance protection of correctional facility employees (highlandcountypress.com) — Hillsboro readers may want to follow House Bill 338, which would toughen penalties for inmates who attack or kill Ohio correctional employees and add new anti-drug measures in prisons. The bill, inspired by a guard’s death at Ross Correctional Institution, has passed the Ohio House and now heads to the Senate, while The Highland County Press seeks community donations from its Hillsboro base.
   

• Governor DeWine announces availability of $65.6 million to improve access to housing (highlandcountypress.com) — Hillsboro residents and local leaders could benefit from a new $65.6 million Welcome Home Ohio funding round aimed at expanding affordable homeownership across the state. Grants and tax credits are available now through mid-January 2026 to help communities buy, rehab, or build homes, with The Highland County Press again noting its Hillsboro-based donation address for continued local coverage.
