Firefighters Talk Issue 2, SB 5
Contract negotiations are under way for Kent firefighters despite the uncertainty of Senate Bill 5

A few of Kent's firefighters are talking about Issue 2 on the November ballot and what they fear its outcome could mean for their jobs.
Kent firefighters Capt. Dave Manthey, Lt. Dave Moore, and Lt. Paul Bevere shared their thoughts on Issue 2 and Senate Bill 5 in an interview today with the Daily Kent Stater.
The Kent Firefighters Association, like all of the city's unions, because it expires at the end of this year.

Negotiations are particularly of interest this year because whether or not voters will repeal Senate Bill 5 and the restrictions it puts on public unions to negotiate wages and other contract elements is the elephant in the bargaining room.
Bevere told the Kent Stater he fears if Issue 2 passes and the restrictions of SB5 take effect, then the safety of firefighters could be at risk from potential budget cuts.
