A massive geyser of water on Fairchild Avenue Monday was just routine maintenance for .

City workers opened a fire hydrant on Fairchild Avenue near Newcomer Road sending water shooting 50 feet or more into the air Monday morning.

Kent Service Director Gene Roberts said opening the hydrant there is routine because it's at the end of the city's water line, so periodically the water must be flushed to keep it from getting stagnant.
